It has been an integral part of the local community years and now the shop at the corner of Oldtown (Formally Larkins) has come under new ownership in the form of one of the county's foremost commercial operators, The Kernan Group.

The Managing Director of the Kernan Group Damian Daly has confirmed that work has begun at the popular site with renovations getting underway this week. The store will still boast a core grocery range and a strong off-licence to compliment the new features and work should be complete by the end of the month.

Regarding the decision to revamp, Nicole Higgins, Manager of the store, says it was simply time to make some changes to moderanise. “We are delighted to be relaunching this store and introducing lots of new fresh food concepts,” said Nicole. “We feel there was a gap in the market for a strong, fresh food offering. I’d like to thank my loyal customers for their patience while the building works are ongoing and I can't wait for them to experience the new store once complete.”
Kernans is a major local employer and the opening of their eighth store will bring their work force up to 188 people.
The Kernan Group, have sites in Newtowncunningham, Ramelton, Drumkeen, Ballyshannon, Newmills, Lower Main Street Letterkenny, Bundoran and are looking forward to launching Oldtown Letterkenny.
The Group also operate diners in Newtowncunningham & Drumkeen and have recently opened a new Coffee Shop & Bakery in Newtowncunningham as well as taking over operations at Bread & Butter Bistro in Letterkenny.

I've built up a core team over the years & it's with their dedication and the valued contribution from many others that has allowed us to continue to develop".
