March 10, 2018

The Kernan Group have officially opened their doors at Lower Main Street Letterkenny to continue the tradition of quality service at the foot of the town. It has been an integral part of the local community for well over sixty years and now the shop at the corner of Lower Main Street and the locally named Back Road has come under new ownership in the form of one of the county's foremost commercial operators, The Kernan Group.

"It was a fantastic event all round. I want to give a special thanks to Highland Radio's David James for doing a wonderful job with his live broadcast, to our guest star Katy O’Brien from Fair City, to Brian McDaid for his excellent photos, to Spar Ireland for all their support and to all our customers who turned out in great numbers", said Mary Black, Manager of the store. "We would also like to thank all the staff from Kernans Lower Main Street who have done a fantastic job organising the event. Heres now to many years serving our customers at the foot of the town, Thank You on behalf of everyone at  the Kernan Group".

Amongst the live interviews on the day, Brian McDaid spoke to David James about the stores origins and revealed how his grandad built the popular store. Checkout his full interview below.

The corner store in Letterkenny will undoubtedly add to an impressive reputation that Kernans have built up over the years, providing a hot & cold deli service, a full off licence, Seattles best Coffee, an ATM and Lotto among many other attractions.

A large number of locals made their way down to the opening event to welcome in the new era. Have a look at this video below which captured the full scenes.

Anthony Kernan The Managing Director and Proprietor  of the Kernan Group added "It has always been my intention to have more than one store," he said. "As opportunities have come my way I took on more retail outlets. I've built up a core team over the years, Damian Daly the Chief Operations Manager, and Caroline Devenney (Office Administrator) who has been here since 1990. It's with their dedication and the valued contribution from many others that has allowed us to continue to develop".
